Salford Cathedral is committed to giving opportunities to children and young people from all backgrounds to come together and sing in a fun and relaxed musical atmosphere. As part of our Music Foundation, choristers from as young as seven will be able to join a choir at the Cathedral and be supported in their practical musical education through active participation in the liturgies of the Cathedral.
We have a range of opportunities for children and young people to sing at the Cathedral:
- Our Training Choir is a new group for younger singers aged 6 – 8 and meets every Tuesday during term time from 3.45pm – 4.15pm in Cathedral House.
- Our Children’s Choir is open to anyone aged 8 – 12 years old and meets every Tuesday during term time from 4.30pm – 5.45pm in Cathedral House.
- Our Cambiata Boys’ Choir is a new group for boys with changing voices and meets every Thursday during term time from 6.15pm – 7.15pm.
- Our Youth Choir is open to anyone aged 12 – 19 years old and meets every Tuesday during term time from 5.45 –6.45pm in Cathedral House.
Led by the Cathedral Director of Music, Alex Patterson, with a team of Choral Scholars, both choirs sing a varied repertoire of both sacred and secular music spanning the centuries and sing for a range of liturgies at the Cathedral, including Masses and Sung Vespers.
There are no auditions or subscription fees to join any of our choirs.
For more information about joining the choirs, please contact the Cathedral Director of Music, Alex Patterson firstname.lastname@example.org
These choirs form part of the Diocesan School Singing Programme which aims to work with schools across the Salford Diocese to inspire high quality singing through a regular programme of in-class singing sessions. The programme hhas been made possible thanks to seed funding from the Hamish Ogston Foundation.
