Salford Songbook

The Salford Songbook is a new initiative, spearheaded by Salford Cathedral Music Foundation, which aims to explore a range of issues through workshopping, composing, performing & recording, resulting in an ongoing digital resource for singing communities, inspired by Salford and the North West.

This first chapter is a collaboration with the Laudato Si’ Centre involving children and young people from across our Diocese working with the multifaceted musician Hannah King to write new songs about our natural world.

In early July 2024, workshops took place the Laudato Si’ Centre with our Cathedral Girls’ Choir and children from primary schools across the Diocese who are engaged in our Salford Schools Singing Programme. Read more about the workshops via our blog.

‘Songs of the Earth’ is a collection of six songs written by Hannah King inspired by these workshops and are currently being taught to children and young people across the Diocese of Salford as part of the Salford Schools Singing Programme. They will launch the songs in May 2025 as part of an exclusive event at The Lowry, Salford Quays, where the songs will be shared internationally for the first time.
