This November we mark the 100th Anniversary of the death of the composer Gabriel Fauré with a one-hour concert featuring the composer’s much-loved Requiem.
One of the most influential French composers of his generation, Fauré was at one time choirmaster at the Église Saint-Sulpice under the composer and organist Charles-Marie Widor, before coming organist at La Madeleine and later director of the Paris Conservatoire.
Our one-hour concert will feature arrangements of Après un rêve and Romance sans paroles performed by our Cathedral Organist, Anthony Hunt. The Cathedral Choir will also sing the beautiful Cantique de Jean Racine before giving a performance of his Requiem, together with our Girls’ Choir and Cambiata Boys’ Choir.
We are delighted to be joined for this concert by local soprano soloist Kerry Firth who will sing the centrepiece ‘Pie Jesu’ as well as performing the song ‘En Priere‘.
Conducted by our Cathedral Director of Music, Alex Patterson, the performance will take place at St Patrick’s RC Church, Collyhurst, on All Souls’ Day – Saturday 2 November at 7.30pm.
Admission for this performance is free, with a retiring collection towards the St Patrick’s Church Organ Appeal.
