After the success of our Christmas Hamper Appeal, and the worsening cost-of-living crisis, our cathedral SVP decided that one of the best ways to live our Lenten mission to ‘pray, fast, and exercise works of charity’ was to hold another appeal throughout Lent.
Parishioners were asked to donate whatever unperishable food they could, especially Easter Eggs! On Palm Sunday, our parish SVP got together to pack all the food into hampers, ready to be shared with parishioners in need during Holy Week.
Roy, SVP Membership Support Officer for Manchester, told us that “The parish have proven their belief in the risen Lord by their actions. The donations for our Lenten appeal were overwhelmingly generous. It goes to show that the Catholic Church is still a force for good in our society!”
Cathedral SVP lead Cath Astin was also moved by the generosity of our parish:
“We were overwhelmed by the generosity of our parishioners. 30 bags were filled to the brim and will be delivered this week. We also had some food leftover, which will mean we can start a stock so we can continue to help people in need during the year.”
Thank you so much to everyone who gave food – you’ve put a smile on the faces of families who otherwise couldn’t afford Easter chocolate. We’d also like to thank the hardworking volunteers of our parish SVP. Their charitable acts do our parish proud!
