Lent, the season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, has begun. On Ash Wednesday Bishop John called us to consider how we can act with love towards those in our communities during this year’s Lenten period. Almsgiving is an essential element of a loving Christian life, one that our cathedral community emphasises all year round with food drives and charitable work.
Following on from our very successful parish Christmas appeal, and in the knowledge that the financial difficulties of many families within our community are not improving, our parish SVP Conference is organising a Lent food hamper appeal.
We need: rice, pasta, tinned meat, pasta sauces, tinned vegetables, tinned fish, savoury pies, breakfast cereal, savoury and sweet biscuits, fruit drinks, preserves, tea, coffee, sugar, powdered or UHT milk etc. and of course Easter eggs.
Unfortunately, we cannot take fresh food as we have nowhere to store it.
There is a box at the back of the Cathedral to place your donations in, until Good Friday (7th April). Please ask one of our Welcomers or a staff member to direct you to it.
If you or anyone you know needs support from our parish SVP, please contact the parish office at: cathedral@dioceseosalford.org.uk or 0161 817 2210
This is our chance to fulfil our Lenten obligation to ‘Pray, Fast and exercise works of Charity’. Please give what you can.
