Restoration Project and Changes to Mass Times

Spire

As you may have noticed from the increased amount of scaffolding being erected around the Cathedral, the restoration project is moving along extremely well. However, as you may also be aware, there is an enormous amount of work to carry out before the project is completed in the spring of 2025. To that end, it is incumbent upon us, as a community of faith, to provide the contractors with the time and space they need to carry out all sorts of work, even inside the Cathedral, before it closes for the interior phase of the project, on the 22nd May 2023. To that end, we have decided to allow the contractors to carry out works within the Cathedral itself, as and when is necessary, but only during weekday afternoons and on Saturday mornings. The Cathedral will remain open during these times, but acts of public worship will need to be limited so that the contractors can progress their work, without having to keep starting and stopping.

To that end, from the 1st February 2023, there will no longer be a Mass celebrated at 5:30pm from Monday to Friday or at 8.00am on a Saturday morning. This will afford the contractors the time they need to progress their work as they see fit. We apologise for any disappointment this may cause, but assure you that it will be worth it in the end!
